Taxi Passenger Accidents
As vehicles that are licensed to carry fare-paying passengers and to ply for hire, taxis are subject to strict licensing laws. In London, taxis and drivers are licensed by the Metropolitan police; outside London, the licensing authority is the local council.
The licence number must be displayed inside the passenger compartment as well as in a prominent position on the outside of the vehicle, and this number is the first thing you should note if you are involved in an accident as a taxi passenger. You should also note the name and address of the taxi driver, and the name and telephone number of the taxi firm.
As an innocent part involved in an accident, you are entitled to claim compensation from the party at fault. This may be another driver, rather than the driver of our taxi, in which case it is imperative to take the names and addresses of any other drivers involved, together with the registration numbers of their vehicles, and details of any witnesses.
